About The Artist
Mark Poulin Because drawing is the new painting and because cartoons and the graphic novel have slipped into American art culture, Mark Poulin has created a line of jewelry to satisfy the playfulness in us all. Poulin has always loved drawing and creating cartoon characters and abstract botanical forms. The characters featured in his work start as doodles and become jewelry only through a long editing and selection process, and then are translated into screen prints that are fired onto the surface of the enamel.Mark Poulin's studio is in Oakland, California where he first learned how to make jewelry, and later enameling, at Studio One Art Center. All of Poulin's work is made of kiln-fired enamels on sterling silver pieces that are made from hand-carved wax models cast in the lost-wax process. Color is built in layers through hand application of wet enamel. Learning to make jewelry allowed Mark to combine his passion for metalwork, love of rich, bold colors, and his array of cartoon characters into fun jewelry. The work has won a loyal following of all ages across the world. |
